Brandérion

Michel Jamoneau Brandérion Centre Ville 72dpi-23

From bronn meaning a hill and Derian, a Breton saint

Brandérion is a rural village with gentle valleys located a few kilometres from the sea and the river Etel. The village takes its name from the river "Rion" which borders the village to the east and from "Brande", a hill in Breton, which lies to the west. In Breton, it is"Prederion". Located on the route of an old Roman road, and the route of pilgrimage to Sainte-Anne d'Auray, Brandérion has the oldest chapel devoted to the patron saint of Brittany, dating well before the Nicolazic apparitions.

Built in the 11th or 12th century, this chapel was rebuilt in the 14th century. There is a granite column dating from the 9th century still visible. Its inhabitants are proud of its many washhouses, ovens and wells.

Must See :

  • The chapel of Sainte-Anne (14th century) whose foundations date from the 11th or 12th century is supposedly the oldest chapel devoted to Saint Anne in Brittany.
