From the Breton Kaodan, from the name of a person or saint.

The commune of Caudan  is located a stone's throw from the ocean, bordered by two rivers, the Scorff and the Blavet. With its special half-urban, half-rural nature, this average-sized commune in the Lorient greater area (6 997 inhabitants) has a surface area of 4 263 ha. With a selection of hotels, rural gites and B&Bs, Caudan has plenty of accommodation choices for visitors. In the green surrounding countryside, discover the bucolic charm of Caudan's calm environment. You can appreciate nature and avail of the walking paths around a lake and a green belt.

Must see: 

  • Chapelle du Trescouët (12th century): the chapel was sold as a national asset during the Revolution. The rector of Caudan bought it back in the 19th century and it was used as a parish church during the Lorient pocket.
  • 16th century cross: an epidemic of the plague hit te region. This cross is erected near the village of Scouhel marking where the plague stopped its progression.
  • The surrender Menhir: the inscription engraved on this monument erected in October 1945 recalls the official ceremony of surrender of the Lorient pocket in Caudan, in application of the surrender signed two days earlier by the Germans in Etel.
  • Keraude manor (16th century): the manor and its outbuildings were sold in 1974 as a national asset to Joseph Duc, nicknamed "sans culotte Montagne".
  • Chateau du Diable gardens: abandoned after the 1987 hurricane, the park is filled with rare plant species renovated at the end of the 1990's, when it was bought by the Department.
  • Kergoff lake: boats and pedal boats for hire, except when the lake is silted up.

Experience :

  • Flea market, organised in April and October.
  • ardons and festivals: on the first and third Sundays in August respectively are held the pardons of the chapels of Trescouët and Nelhouët.
  • New Year's Eve: a big fest-noz is held on 31st December in the Kergoff hall to celebrate the New Year.
